​​​Since Brooks was in the NFL for 14 seasons, he has played with many former Florida Gators, which is Florida State's main rival. Some of the them are: Lomas Brown, Ike Hilliard, Kenyatta Walker, and Kevin Carter.


Brooks has also played with many Florida State players as well, including: Brad Johnson, Dexter Jackson, Greg Spires, and Warrick Dunn.

Derrick Brooks was selected to announce the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2nd Round pick (#38 overall) at the 2014 NFL Draft held at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The pick was Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a TE out of the University of Washington.
